Past and present

Founded in 1957, the Cape Orchid Society is the oldest orchid group in South Africa and a founder member of the South African Orchid Council. The COS strives to bring together those interested in orchids in order to promote and encourage the culture and conservation of orchids, as well as to educate and provide a base for all other orchid-related activities. The COS began with monthly meetings, which still continue today, providing informative presentations, practical growing advice and an opportunity for growers to display and discuss their plants and flowers. The Society hosts a number of events throughout the year, including two shows in which growers showcase their blooms, an auction, greenhouse open days and hikes. We also provide members with a newsletter, monthly guest speakers, local judging, and much, much, more!
